Submitted by Robert on Wed, 04/07/2010 - 12:26April is Organ Donation Awareness Month....3 years ago I would have read this and thought. I am an organ donor. I have it on my driver's license...and never would I have had a second thought about it. I certainly do not think I would have brought up the conversation with my hubby....not a serious one. The most serious conversation about death that we had up until 3 years ago was my threat to haunt him because he said he would freeze my body and make sure I had no socks on....my feet are always cold....that is just wrong!
I think I was a pretty typical organ donor...I knew it was the right thing but never really spoke about it. Then on December 5, 2006 the most precious little girl was born. Her name was Savannah Isabella. I carried her in my body for so long that I remember telling Robert that I just wanted to keep her in there...I could protect her in there...I did not want her to come out of me and into the world where harm could come to her....little did I know the journey she would be facing. Little did I know how much she would change the way I look at the Gift of Organ Donation.

Submitted by Robert on Tue, 04/06/2010 - 13:11We had our ENT appointment today...thanks to Dr. Ponytail for getting us in and shaving 3 weeks off the waiting period! Savvy had a cold...big deal right?! Well, it has been 8 weeks and she can't kick it. No longer a cold (officially after 7 days). The doctor asked her if she wanted to sit on mommy's lap and she said, "big girl"...she sat on this big chair and he asked her again...she was so brave. She sat perfectly still for the first scope but the second time he went up the second nostril hurt and it hurt her bad. The numbing spray did not have the same effect or he had to go in deeper..not sure .. but it was not good! The tears...it was tough...I tell him she has had an NG tube and is freaking like when I had to insert it ..take it out. Well, long story short Savvy's adenoids are huge. The issue will not resolve itself. This doctor seems to be good...he is a former CHOP doctor (whoot whoot!

Submitted by Robert on Fri, 04/02/2010 - 08:47I have been cuddling with my babygirl all morning...she spent the day playing with her cousins at the beach yesterday. She had a BLAST! Today, her chest sounds a bit worse so I am cuddling...she wants to get up and play and I just keep trying to bribe her to lay with me a cuddle (another Elmo???)...I just keep thinking of Ayanna and I am heartbroken. I know how blessed I am to have my girl with me here...at home...boogie sick and all...so blessed!
Our sweet little friend needs our prayers now more then ever...her second liver has collapsed and her kidneys have failed...she is now in dialysis. She just had a freaking cough 2 weeks ago...I am heartbroken. To boot her family had a toilet piece break in their home and everything is ruined. I KNOW that they do not care about any material anything....all they want is their healthy girl back with them...Trust me when I say that they would lose anything and everything to make sure Ayanna gets better....but it all just compounds ... it is too much.
Here is Maggie's last update:

We were on our way in and got a call from one of the picu docs. This doc sat down with us for about 20 minutes last night and explained exactly why she is so puffy and what else could happen. Long story short, this air that went to her face has now gone into the wrong part of her lung. This caused a collapsed lung and she is getting a chest tube placed right now. This is all the info we have right this moment so well let you know when we have more info.

Submitted by Robert on Tue, 03/30/2010 - 09:01We went to the dr. and he was able to get the appt with the specialist pushed up to next week when he personally called...that saves a month in wasted time. Yesterday her chest sounded bad and that was why we decided to take her back...he heard her and gave her another prescription but said she sounded okay...today, the chest is worse...she feels hot but is registering at 99 degrees so...she is teetering higher then normal...
On the good news is that Savvy's cousins are in town for a week. We are staying away today since she really needs to rest and I don't want to get them sick on their vacation but hopefully tomorrow she will be better and up to running around with her cousins...she does get bursts of energy. Yesterday, we came home from the drs to find an Easter package from her Madrina Rosie waiting at the door. She was so tired with droopy eyes and boogie nose but when she saw the package..."SO Beautiful" she tells me...it was such a nice change in mood! Thanks Rosie!! You Rock!

Submitted by Robert on Sun, 03/28/2010 - 22:11It is 1 am and Savvy is on the sofa asleep. Just can't put her in her bed...she got really sick really quickly. First the boogies were just dripping like crazy then she started to cry because she felt "ouie"...after a long walk in the wagon she finally passed out but I have her propped up on the sofa cause she just isn't sounding right...time will tell.
I just finished posting her "grilling" segment....
She is just so much fun...it drives me crazy to see her sick. Hopefully, tomorrow we will just be tired inhaling liquid gold through our veins while she runs around like a crazy monkey playing...oh..panic...I think we might be short on coffee...must get off the computer and check!

Submitted by Robert on Sun, 03/28/2010 - 13:28Savvy's boogie symptoms are back...no fever though so that is good. Just wish she could knock this thing out of her system. She is in the garage "helping" Super Papi build some storage items for Mami's scrapbook room...she has her own little work bench (Super Papi made for her) and she takes her saw and works away.
I visited with Ayanna yesterday....she is not well. She has been sedated because they have paralyzed her so that the lung machine can work for her. She has 13 IV machines going.... Her parents are with her in the PICU .. it has now been an entire week. Maggie and I have always thought Ayanna and Savvy look a lot alike and walking in and seeing her in the hospital bed was just like seeing Savvy. Ayanna is strong.
She is a Warrior Princess. She has dealt with the unfair "bumps" of being post-transplant and immune suppressed. She literally had a cough last week...just a cough...by the end of the day she was in the PICU diagnosed with pneumonia. I simply ask you continue to keep her in your hearts and prayers.

Submitted by Robert on Thu, 03/25/2010 - 20:02I am planning to visit Ayanna this weekend so I will let you know how she is doing then...please keep those prayers coming!
Savvy had another doctor's appointment today. I know we go to often when she gets excited at the site of seeing him! Dr. Ponytail is awesome so I can't blame him...but we have to see an ENT at this point. Whatever she has had seems fine at this point but she still can not breathe through her nose...tried different things and nada...thing is the recommended ENT doesn't have an appt until May 2!!!! I have a call in to see if we can get another ...
